GOP lawmakers on Tuesday urged President Barack Obama to be impeachable for a range of impeachable offenses, including perjury, obstruction of justice and lying under oath.
The House of Representatives Judiciary Committee approved the letter from the nine lawmakers, all Democrats, in a 10-4 vote.
The letter follows two weeks of heated hearings in the House, where Republicans attempted to hold up a bill that would impeach the president for failing to protect the nation from an attack on a U.S. consulate in Libya.
Democrats have accused Republicans of being partisan in pursuing a bill they say would have impeached the president and his administration.
The letter said it was the “responsibility of the House to determine the extent of the damage the impeachable conduct has caused the American people, and to determine how to hold the president accountable.”
The letter was released the same day that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said in a statement that the Senate is expected to vote to impeach Obama within days.
